Carpet Style

In tufted carpet, loops of yarn are inserted (tufted) into a pre-woven backing. Tufting brings versatility to Designers and affordability to buyers. By far, most carpeting sold today is tufted.

Style - Texture is created by the size of the yarns, the twist of the yarns and the cut of the surface. With so many kinds of carpet, it may be hard to decide where to start when choosing a style, but a good and easy place to start is how the carpet is made. Let's look at the Three Basic Categories of tufted carpet.

Cut Pile Styles
The loops are cut giving the carpet a velvet or plush look. A tighter twisting of the yarn before manufacture can give a rugged look called hard twist.
Loop Pile Styles
The carpet yarn is left in a loop (not cut) that can be very durable and hard wearing, depending on the density and size of the loops.
Cut & Loop Pile
Cut & Loop style carpet has both types of tufts. A combination of both cut and loop pile carpets can create different effects and patterns.
